Car theft suspects arrested after police chase ends in East Chattanooga crash

A police chase ended with a stolen vehicle crashing into a ditch and the arrest of two convicted felons Monday evening in East Chattanooga, according to a Chattanooga Police Department news release.

A task force, which including ATF and FBI agents and Chattanooga police officers, started pursuit at 5200 Highway 58, investigators said.

The stolen vehicle was involved in three crashes during the pursuit. Civilian vehicles sustained minor damage when they were struck during the pursuit by the suspect vehicle.

The chase ended at 2200 Monroe St. near Dodson Avenue and Wilcox Boulevard when the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a ditch. A police car was damaged in the final crash, according to the report.

Police said the driver, 25-year-old Marquis McReynolds, and passenger, 23-year-old Jermichael Brooks, were extracted from the crashed vehicle and taken into custody. Both suspects are convicted felons and two weapons were found in the vehicle.

McReynolds and Brooks were arrested on evading arrest, narcotics, weapons and auto theft charges. Federal charges also will be pursued on both suspects, police said.
