East Tennessee paramedic dies in accident during training at lake

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (AP) - An eastern Tennessee paramedic has died in an accident during training at a lake.

Sullivan County Sheriff's Capt. Andy Seabolt says 36-year-old Washington County/Johnson City paramedic Jason Austin of Limestone was pronounced dead Thursday at Bristol Regional Medical Center.

The Sullivan County Sheriff's Office tells the Johnson City Press (http://bit.ly/29O1wyS ) that Austin was working on his deep dive certification at South Holston Lake.

Washington County/Johnson City EMS executive director Dan Wheeley says that in addition to being part of the EMS management team and a field training officer for new employees, Austin was on a team that conducts rescue and search dives.
