Police shooting injures one in Lebanon, Tenn.

LEBANON, Tenn. - The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation says a Lebanon police officer has shot and injured a person as the officer was responding to a report of a stolen vehicle.

The TBI says the person who was shot was taken to Vanderbilt University hospital but that his condition is unavailable. The person's identity wasn't released.

The TBI said a vehicle was reported stolen from a Lebanon business, and the officer began to pursue the vehicle. The agency said the vehicle exited Interstate 40 and left the exit roadway, going down an embankment.

Investigators say the officer got out of his vehicle, and the person in the other vehicle was outside his car. The TBI said during the encounter, the officer fired, hitting the person.

TBI doesn't release officer names. Lebanon police didn't immediately return a phone message seeking the officer's status.
