Edward Jerome Harbison was granted a time extension Monday in response to a motion to reset the execution date for his conviction of killing a St. Elmo woman in 1983.
Harbison's motion was filed July 29 in response to the state's July 26 motion to reset his execution date.
Harbison had until Sept. 7 to file a response about his reset execution date, according to an order from the Supreme Court of Tennessee. It was unclear if Harbison had a set execution date late Monday.
After being arrested, Harbison admitted killing Edith Russell when she walked in on him and an accomplice as they ransacked her home at 113 Ochs Highway. Authorities said Harbison "panicked," hitting Russell so hard over the head with a marble vase that blood and brain matter splattered the walls.
