Offices closing for Memorial Day

Most government offices will be closed Monday in observance of the Memorial Day holiday.

The U.S. Postal Service will not deliver mail on the holiday, and banks will be closed. Chattanooga and Hamilton County government offices will be closed Monday.

However, garbage and recyclables will be collected as scheduled Monday in the city. Containers must be placed curbside before 7 a.m. on collection day.

All Whitfield County and Dalton, Ga., offices and the courthouse will be closed Monday, including the Transit Service. Normal schedules will resume Tuesday, according to Whitfield County officials.

The Dalton-Whitfield Regional Solid Waste Management Authority will operate from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. today on a regular schedule. All locations will be closed Monday. All locations will open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday. Normal operating days and hours will resume Thursday, officials said.

Recycling convenience centers in Chattanooga at Warner Park, James A. Patten Recreation Center and Brainerd Road will be closed Memorial Day. Locations at Access Road and Batters Place Drive will be open.

Refuse collection centers will be open on Memorial Day as scheduled. The Wood Recycling Center will be closed Memorial Day.

Chattanooga residents who are unsure of their garbage collection pickup day may call 311 (425-6311).

In observance of Memorial Day, CARTA's fixed route and Downtown Shuttle buses will operate on a Saturday schedule on Monday. CARTA's Care-A-Van service also will operate on a holiday schedule.

CARTA services will resume their regular weekday schedules on Tuesday.
