Georgians head to polls today

Voters across Georgia will head to the polls today to elect new officials and decide issues such as Sunday alcohol sales and tax districts. Voters in the Northwest Georgia cities of Rossville, Fort Oglethorpe, Dalton and Trenton will decide on new mayors.

Polling places statewide are open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. EST.

RiverWalk section collapses

Authorities say a 45-foot section of the Chattahoochee RiverWalk has caved in after being exposed to shifting river currents amid the construction of a whitewater rafting course.

No injuries were reported.

The Columbus Ledger-Enquirer reported that the Saturday collapse near a dam downtown has dealt the whitewater project an unexpected setback.

New voting law video available

The Tennessee Division of Elections has developed a town hall video about a new law requiring voters to show a state or federally issued photo ID at the polls next year.

The video provides information about the acceptable forms of photo identification and lists the options for voters who do not have such an ID.

The video can be found on the division web page.
