A Fort Payne, Ala., man and his father were arguing Tuesday night because the father said he wanted to die.

He got his wish.

About 7:15 p.m. CDT, the body of 48-year-old Barry Stone was found behind a church off County Road 51, dead from stab wounds to his chest. By 4 a.m. CDT Wednesday, the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office had arrested his son, 27-year-old Tony Stone.

Tony Stone has been charged with murder and is being held at DeKalb County Detention Center without bond, said Sheriff Jimmy Harris.

Although the son has confessed, Harris said there's still more to investigate. He said he did not know if drugs or alcohol were involved in the killing.

Detectives recognized Barry Stone, having had dealings with him in the past, but didn't have his name, so they went through mugshots at the DeKalb County Sheriff Jail until they ID'd him, Harris said. They received confirmation after detectives ran his fingerprints through an FBI identification system, the sheriff said.

Harris attributed the speedy arrest to the hard work of detectives at his office and the Fort Payne Police Department. "It's called good, hard-working investigators," he said.
