John D. Beckett, an Ohio engineer, manufacturer, business leader and author, will be the featured speaker for the 34th Chattanooga Area Leadership Prayer Breakfast on May 1 at the Chattanooga Convention Center.

The purpose of the event, to which mayors and civic officials of area cities and towns are featured guests, "is to encourage morality and ethics in the lives of all people in positions of leadership in business, government and in professions."

On the day of the breakfast, doors open at 6:45 a.m., food service begins at 7 a.m. and the program starts at 7:20 a.m.

Beckett is chairman of the R.W. Beckett Corp. of North Ridgeville, Ohio, which, with its affiliates, has more than 600 employees and sales exceeding $100 million. The company is a worldwide leader in the manufacturing and sale of engineered components for residential and commercial heating.

Long involved in church and community activities, he helped found Intercessors for America, a national prayer organization, in 1973, and continues to serve on its board. The married father of six and grandfather of 16 was named Christian Businessman of the Year by the Christian Broadcasting Network in 1999 and manufacturing Entrepreneur of the Year by Ernst & Young in 2003.
