Who can really imagine ...?

Who can really imagine ...?

Who can fathom what it must feel like to be an American in a foreign country, far from home, and not only imprisoned but suspected of murder?

That's exactly what 24-year-old Amanda Knox experienced -- for the past four years!

But as of late Tuesday, she was headed safely home, to Seattle.

Knox had been in a horrible predicament. She and a former boyfriend, Italian Raffaele Sollecito, had been convicted of the sexual assault and stabbing murder of her British roommate, 21-year-old Meredith Kercher, in 2007.

But recently, an eight-member jury acquitted both of the defendants after a review of DNA evidence. It was ruled that the two had not committed the crime.

Most foreign travel is reasonably safe. But being under any suspicion of a violation of foreign law is scary, whatever the circumstances. Foreign travelers are well advised to heed carefully the laws of the countries they visit.

No one would want to endure what Amanda Knox has been through the past four years.
