GM's good news for Tennessee

It obviously is very good news for Tennesseans that General Motors plans to reopen its former Saturn automobile manufacturing plant at Spring Hill, about 40 miles from Nashville.

GM apparently is responding to the popularity of its Chevrolet Equinox model -- currently made in Canada. Initial reports indicate that the Spring Hill plant will build Equinoxes.

About 2,000 workers at the Middle Tennessee GM plant lost their jobs after GM announced in 2009 that the production facility was to be closed.

Whatever vehicles they may soon be producing in Spring Hill, workers there are no doubt glad to have that opportunity.
