Shooting victim Rep. Gabrielle Giffords' bids farewell to Congress

It was a horrible day on Jan. 8, 2011, when U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, D-Ariz., was shot in the head at a supermarket in Tucson, Ariz., during a gathering with constituents.

An apparently deranged man has been charged in the shooting, which killed six and injured 13.

Giffords fortunately survived the attack but was severely injured. And despite good physical progress, she has decided to resign from Congress to pursue her recovery.

Many saddened and prayerful Americans are wishing her well as she faces difficult challenges. She deserves praise for her grit and determination.
