Obama's America hurts its citizens

I just learned from my son, who is in the U.S. Army, that military tuition assistance for education has been halted. I learned a couple of days ago that the White House is closed to tourists in spite of personal offers to cover the cost. I learned a while back that Obama assigned some $716 billion from Medicare to cover the cost of Obamacare. I believe Medicare is mainly for seniors, and Obamacare burdens working Americans with more out-of-pocket costs.

I also heard recently that some consideration is being given to charging wounded veterans for their medical care. Of course there is that thing of abortion that deprives youngsters of baby siblings to play with, and that thing of no middle class sounds Obamaish.

Releasing criminal illegal aliens into the wild with false pretense threatens homeland security. The Republicans didn't do that, did they? Again I offer the story about the man and the shotgun: The shotgun won't go off half cocked.

Fire safety important no matter your age

Who could forget the stop, drop and roll routines you did as a child when firefighters would come and visit the school working on fire safety? It seems as if it goes away after those elementary school days because it is a threat that many feel may never hit their home.

I think it is great that firefighters are giving smoke alarms to homes in some neighborhoods in Chattanooga. How often are we prepared for disasters when they hit our home? In moments of panic it is hard to think of what steps to take, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't always be prepared for them. Not only should the people be prepared with fire alarms, but there should be easier ways for the professionals working in public safety to have access to homes.

People should always make sure their homes are up to date on codes, and the professionals should ensure this to make homes a safer place for the people living there.

Column was not only biased, but incorrect

I find Charles Krauthammer's column on Obama's visit to Jerusalem biased, not researched and irrelevant. His suggestion that Palestinians don't care about Israeli children, only suicide martyrdom, smacks of ignorance and lacks evidence as do his comments regarding why Israel accepted the 1947 U.N. partition.

I am a recent college graduate with a B.A. in political science, and I can say definitively that the information presented by Mr. Krauthammer is incorrect and biased. His opinion piece seems to have the ultimate goal of delegitimizing Obama's peace efforts in the region, with which I have no problem.

Personal political opinions are personal political opinions. But please, don't present misleading, biased and unresearched "evidence" to bolster the argument, particularly regarding a topic of which many people may not have a deep historical and/or political understanding.
