Good Deed: Young man who helped woman cross in traffic appreciated

Good Deed

I thought I was just slowing down because I'm getting older. Then I was unable to get across Brainerd Road at Germantown before the light changed. I was right in the middle of that busy intersection in oncoming traffic. I didn't know which way to turn.

A tall, young African-American man stopped his car just past the intersection and got out leaving his car door hanging open and his music blaring. He took me by the elbow, waved to the oncoming traffic to wait and walked me safely across. A woman driving down South Germantown shouted out, "Good for you!" to him. He turned to me and said, "God is good."

One thing I have really appreciated in the four years I've lived in Chattanooga is the comfortable relations among ethnic groups. I am grateful this young man saw me as someone who needed a hand, rather than just an older woman of a different ethnic group, and I am grateful to him for his kindness.
