Stulce may be vet but no gun expert

About the Friday Times commentary by Terry Stulce: I will say that having been a soldier does not qualify him to berate the rest of us who believe in the Second Amendment as "gun worshippers."

His statements about "assault" weapons are disingenuous at best and outright lies at worst. If a rifle does not meet the government criterion of being capable of automatic fire, then it is not an assault weapon.

There are other criteria published by our government that this weapon doesn't meet. It doesn't have a bayonet lug like an M-16, and it does not have a flash suppressor like an M-16. It does have a minimal muzzle brake, but many rifles do.

His experience is impressive but irrelevant. I have never been in the military, but I've been shot at and I shot back. That's a gunfight no matter where you are or what you do for a living.

I won't allow some gung-ho paratrooper who has become an anti-gun zealot because he has flashbacks tell me what I can and can't have in the way of a weapon.

Carter endorsed in re-election bid

As lifelong residents of Soddy-Daisy, my family and I want to ensure men of faith, character and conservative values represent our interests in elected positions. Our community and our nation, more than ever, need men of faith with true conservative values.

I am proud to say my friend Mike Carter is one such individual. Mike has a reliable and ethical track record to support his conservative approach to leadership in representing District 29.

Thanks to his leadership and legislation on annexation, for the first time in more than 60 years, Tennessee residents do not have to worry about forced annexation without consent. This is an important step in making sure we maintain small government.

As an attorney and small businessman, Rep. Carter knows the importance of growing our local economy, keeping taxes low, supporting existing businesses and working with residents to pass common-sense legislation. As a sportsman, he has remained a strong advocate for our Second Amendment rights to bear arms.

I would like to ask you and your family to join me and re-elect a true conservative, Mike Carter, as the Republican candidate for state representative in House District 29.

Favors favored in House race

I am asking you to join me in voting for Rep. Joanne Favors as state representative of the 28th Legislative District.

Rep. Favors epitomizes the dedication, desire, experience and ability required to do what is needed for her constituents and others in the city, county and state of Tennessee.

We must always keep in mind that our votes really count, especially at the local level. Those elected by us, like our state representatives, mayors, councilmen/women and commissioners, have a direct impact on our personal lives and where we live.

Rep. Favors has my trust, admiration and respect as a legislator. I know she will continue to sponsor and support legislation that is valued and needed by us, as her constituents. She listens to what we are saying, she is observant and she knows our needs.

Rep. Favors fights for us every day in Nashville. It's time for us to get out and vote for her as our state representative! Early voting is July 15-30.
