Bledsoe assessor says 'doing my job'

In May 2016, the Department Of Property Assessors sent personnel to look at 200 parcels of property in Bledsoe County. In June, I received the errors report and was given 15 days to make the corrections.

All but one have been visited and corrected and are now on the tax roll.

On the list were 85 major errors, and out of the 85 errors, 8 percent were found to have occurred during the time I have been your assessor. The other 92 percent were before the time I took office in September 2012.

The one we are still working on is an RV park with 42 hook-ups, a two-story office building that was built in 2008 and other buildings on the property from the 1970s, per the property owner.

The delay on this parcel has been a mapping error that will be corrected soon.

I have been accused of not doing my job when, in fact, I am doing my job and beyond.

If anyone has any questions, please come and see me at the office or give me a call.

Robinson needed for school board

The Hamilton County Department of Education isn't providing our children with the education they deserve. It's not because our kids can't learn or because our problems are too big to fix. Our school system is failing because the adults who work on the school board and in the central office refuse to set aside their differences and do their jobs. We're failing because these adults often act like children. Our school board members have failed to work with the County Commission over the past decade, instead gossiping and picking fights. Rather than addressing problems and proposing solutions, they pass blame and cover things up.

I see a chance for change in this school board race. That's why I'm sad the supporters of District 4 Board of Education candidates have turned to childish games. All of Tiffanie Robinson's signs in East Chattanooga - where I live - were torn out of the ground and thrown into the river. Some people aren't ready for her. I'm asking you to be ready for Tiffanie Robinson. Look at our candidates for school board. Ask yourselves who actually cares, who can make change and who can act like an adult.

Parents hold key to child's welfare

When are we going to face the real problem?

It is not a black or white problem; it is both. If a man and woman have a child they know they will never provide a Christ-centered stable home for, with food, shelter and a good education, what have they done? They condemn this child to a life of living on the system, stealing and selling dope. The child needs pride in himself or herself and a good education. The government tells the woman she can have all the benefits from the system if a man doesn't live with her. The man should either pay child support or be in jail.

Until parents accept the responsibility of caring for a child and giving it a good education, nothing will ever change. The killings will increase, and we will become a Third World country with the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer.
