Trump supporters are truly deplorables

Donald Trump has performed a public service by exposing Republicans as Bible-thumping hypocrites. The unavoidable truth is that Republicans are supporting an immoral miscreant and self-avowed serial sex abuser while claiming to be the party of "family values." Trump's "values" are suitable only in the Manson family. He has also ripped the mask of piety off the ugly face of the religious right to reveal a cabal of opportunists more interested in wielding power than advancing Christian virtue. The Bible says you will know them by the fruit they bear. Their fruit is rotten and stinks to high heaven.

Trump has also revealed the craven cowardice of Republicans. In Tennessee, only Bill Haslam has had the guts and integrity to say "no" to Trump and has been attacked by other Republicans for choosing patriotism over party. And who has been the biggest Trump boot-licker? Why, spineless Bob Corker, of course. Trump's outrageous racist and misogynistic statements provoke only silence or some mild euphemisms from Bob. When Trump is accused of a series of sexual assaults on women, Bob characterizes it as "very inappropriate and offensive." No, Bob, this is not "inappropriate." This is criminal.

Joe Graham urged to 'hang in there'

I read last Thursday's TFP and laughed hard at county commissioners calling Joe Graham a bully at their meeting. Sounds like you need to give Sabrena Turner-Smedley a crying towel. After all, why is East Hamilton more important than Lookout Valley?

I am not a fan of the recreation center as you know, Joe Graham, yet we are dead last getting anything from both city and county in all my years. They wanted us so bad, yet they neglect their duties for this area. While growing up, you know we had both city and county protection and now we are lucky to even see a city police officer out here some days. So keep the commissioners on their toes. Hopefully if you get to the chairman position, you can get stuff done for this area. Hang in there, Joe. You know you have me backing you up.

Character lessons critical for children

I recently attended an awards ceremony at Thrasher Elementary School.

Awards were given to students for such character traits as courtesy, kindness, civility, respect, integrity and honesty.

Thank you to our schools for instilling these invaluable lessons in our children's impressionable minds. During the ceremony, it occurred to me that there is no way Donald Trump would have ever received such an award. You see, there was no award given for rudeness, bullying, being obnoxious, narcissism, demeaning others or discrimination.

The lesson I took from today is that we must continue to lead our children on the path of developing good character - otherwise, they may turn out like Donald J. Trump.
