Dropped discount irks customer

The honeymoon must be over for Food City, Publix and Chattanooga.

I just noticed the other day that Food City did not give me my 5 percent senior discount, which was one of the reasons I shopped there.

Upon calling, I was notified that Food City stopped (no warning and no visible signs that I could see even though I get plenty of correspondence from them) because Publix also stopped offering the discount.

So I called Publix headquarters in Lakeland, Fla., and the customer care folks said it stopped mainly in the Tennessee area because Kroger stopped offering the discount and it had better ways of supporting communities (I guess seniors don't spend enough money in their stores).

I guess the adage, "if all your friends jumped off a cliff, would you follow?" is alive and well in the grocery chain realm.

Motorists urged to seek fuel alternatives

OK, it's taken me way too long to realize I have been supporting a company, Pilot Flying J, whose sales executives are a group of racist con artists.

I would ask everyone to join me in boycotting Pilot Flying J rather than helping them pay their $92 million criminal fine and $85 million shelled out to settle lawsuits for cheating and yet escape any punishment for their drunken racist parties.

Surely there are more than enough other sources for fuel and truck services available to us.

Columnist Greeson misses Dolly's point

In last Saturday's Times Free Press, columnist Jay Greeson asks, "Was anyone else somewhat disappointed that she (Dolly Parton) took the word 'Dixie' out of her 'Stampede' theater name?"

I, for one, was not disappointed at all. You see, Mr. Greeson, Dolly "gets it," and you still don't.

Have a conversation with your good friend, David Cook. I'm sure he can explain it to you. He might even suggest that you think of the rebel flag as an analogy.

Economy, tax relief will help GOP

Republicans are concerned about the outcome of the upcoming 2018 national mid-term elections because the party in power usually loses seats.

However, I think this will be a unique election because the booming economy is providing the electorate with tax relief and financial improvements.

I think this election year will be a no-brainer for Republicans because they can point out that their Democrat opponents voted against the tax relief bill and its phenomenal success.
