The Hamilton County Election Commission held it's April meeting Wednesday, with the recently re-elected commissioners reciting their oaths of office and electing officers.

Michael Walden, Ruth Braly, and Chris Clem were reappointed to represent the majority Republican party, and Kelvin Scott and Jerry Summers were reappointed to represent the minority Democratic party.

The commissioners are appointed by the state legislature and serve two year terms. Its role is to oversee and make suggestions to Hamilton County Administrator of Elections Kerry Steelman, who runs the day-to-day election operations in the county.

The commission also chose to keep the same officers as last term, with Walden again serving as chair and Summers serving as secretary.

Walden, who has served on the commission for twenty years, still takes pride in his role as commissioner.

"It's a pleasure and honor to serve," Walden said. "Our function is to ensure that we have fair and impartial elections based on the law. The law is the law, it's not Democrat or Republican. Everything is done in a bipartisan manner."
