County's Boyd seeking another job

Newly elected Hamilton County Commissioner Tim Boyd is looking for another full-time job after resigning from a position he took just three weeks ago.

Boyd said before the County Commission's agenda meeting Thursday that he left P&C Construction on Sept. 3. He said that because of his commission schedule he would be unable to fulfill his responsibilities at the company. Boyd, who formerly worked as a manager at Southeast Carpenters, was a pre-construction estimator for the P&C. He helped the company submit bids for projects.

"Most bid estimates go out on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays," Boyd said, adding that such his duties would conflict with the normal commission meeting days of Wednesday and Thursday.

And as an employee, Boyd would have had to recuse himself from votes and discussions about contracts if P&C was a bidder. The county attorney's office said as long as Boyd did not "inject himself" into contract matters involving P&C, there would be no problem.

Boyd said the potential recusals were not a factor. David Williams, human resources director for P&C, said it was Boyd's decision to leave.

"His resignation letter states that, 'Due to obligations outside P&C Construction it has become apparent I will not be able to perform all the duties due to scheduling conflicts,'" Williams said.

Boyd said he's going to network within the community to find another job.

"I've been thinking about doing some consulting work," he said.

Commissioners earn $20,745 a year.
