Mayor Jim Coppinger is giving the Hamilton County Commissioners a first look at his 2016 budget.

During a workshop today, Coppinger unveiled a $664.4 million budget, with no tax increase. The proposed budget is $21 million larger than this year's, which represents a 3.3 percent increase.

The increase is due to the addition of the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office and the Juvenile Court Clerk's office into the general fund. The offices were included to make accounting more efficient, Coppinger said.

That total includes a $405.7 million for the county school system, an increase of 6.5 million or 1.6 percent over the current budget.

School board members voted on the $405.7 million budget last night at their regular meeting.

Commissioners will vote up or down on the budget June 17.
