The Hamilton County Election Commission has shot down a request by the Chattanooga City Council to add two more early voting sites for the March 7 city elections.

The body voted 3-1 in favor of maintaining its current stable of early voting sites: the election commission office, Northgate and the Brainerd Recreation Center.

"It's about accessibility," election commissioner Kelvin Scott said, who cast the opposing vote against only using current sites.

Commission Chairman Michael Walden said he hesitated to expand the number of early voting sites without data.

Additional voting sites will not be determined by hunches, feelings, wants or "a request from a politician," Walden said.
