The Hamilton County Commission shot down a proposed commercial firing range on Tuesday morning, citing location as the primary drawback to the proposed $2.4 million development.

Justin Whaley and Wade Batson sought to operate a state-of-the art range along Retro Hughes Road in the rural area northwest of Soddy Daisy.

A motion to deny the special permit passed with an 8-1 vote.

Commissioner Joe Graham said he hopes the businessmen will continue looking for a location to put the range where there is less opposition from neighboring land owners.
