Sen. Bo Watson's father dies

Foy Walton Watson, Jr., the father of Senate Speaker Pro Tempore Bo Watson, R-Hixson, died at home on Saturday.

A news release said the elder Watson died four days before his 90th birthday.

He was a graduate of Chattanooga High School and the University of Chattanooga, and served as a training pilot in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.

He was vice president of the group insurance department at Provident Life and Accident Insurance Co. when he retired after 41 years of service.

A memorial service is being planned, with arrangements by Hamilton Funeral Home and Cremation Services. Donations in honor of Mr. Watson may be made to the Cherokee Council of the Boy Scouts of America, Trinity Lutheran Youth Program, or the charity of your choice.
