Blood clot in Mocs' Dyer's lung

University of Tennessee at Chattanooga linebacker Bo Dyer has been in a Chattanooga hospital for several days because of a blood clot and could miss the 2010 season.

Dyer, a redshirt sophomore from Gatlinburg who played running back last season, wrote about his situation on Facebook early Saturday morning: "Getting told I would be sitting out the 2010 season is something I'm struggling to deal with."

Mocs coach Russ Huesman said Saturday that he had not been informed that Dyer was out for the season. Dyer's blood clot is in a lung and the major risk there is pulmonary embolism, when arteries in the lungs are blocked.

Dyer's doctors are trying to dissolve the clot with blood thinners. UTC head athletic trainer Todd Bullard said anyone taking blood thinners is unable to play because the body can't "take any type of trauma."

While Dyer is out indefinitely, Mocs free safety Chris Lewis-Harris is doubtful for the Mocs' first two games, at least, following foot surgery last week. Lewis-Harris had a screw inserted to correct a stress fracture, and the recovery time for that type of procedure typically is around three months.

The Mocs begin preseason practice on Aug. 4 and open their season at home against Appalachian State on Sept. 4.
