Guilty plea for ex-Dog

Former University of Georgia quarterback Zach Mettenberger pleaded guilty Monday afternoon on two counts of misdemeanor sexual battery from his March 7 incident at Flip Flops Bar in Remerton, Ga.

Mettenberger had other charges dismissed at Lowndes County Superior Court. The 6-foot-5, 230-pounder from Watkinsville, Ga., was dismissed from the Bulldogs by coach Mark Richt on March 18, eight days after he threw for 150 yards and two touchdowns in the G-Day game.

Under the state's First Offender Act, Mettenberger must pay a $2,000 fine, perform 80 hours of community service and be on probation for a year.

In a statement provided by his attorney, Mettenberger apologized to the female victim and to his family, friends, former teammates, former coaches and the university. He also expressed hope that he will be given a second chance to compete at another school.
