Lady Mocs host Appalachian State

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga softball team is scheduled to host Appalachian State in a doubleheader Saturday starting at 1 p.m. and a single game Sunday at 2.

Predicted stormy weather may force changes, but Saturday is set up as Fan Appreciation Day with hot dogs and drinks selling for $1.

UTC is 19-7 overall, 3-0 in the Southern Conference, while ASU is 11-14 and 4-2. The Mountaineers had their first winning season last year, but their coach of the past three seasons, Amy Herrington-Woodard, now assists Frank Reed at UTC.

Appalachian State also is one of the weekend opponents for the UTC men's tennis team. The Mocs (7-8, 2-2) host Stetson (13-7) on the UTC courts today at 2 and entertain ASU (7-4, 1-1) there Sunday at 1.

UTC has won six of its last eight matches, and its seven 2011 wins ties the total from the last two seasons. That is the most in a season since the Mocs went 12-10 in 2008.

The tennis Lady Mocs are scheduled to host Wofford at 1 p.m. Saturday on the UTC courts, although rain could prompt a move indoors, and Furman at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Champions Club.

Two UTC junior distance runners, Chris Berry and Emmanuel Kirwa, are competing this weekend in the Stanford Invitational outdoor track and field meet, but many of their teammates will be in Atlanta for the Georgia Tech Invitational.
