Lions finish baseball sweep

Bryan College completed a three-game baseball series sweep of the University of Rio Grande with 5-0 and 4-3 victories Saturday at Dayton.

Jason Ridenhour pitched a nine-inning one-hitter with 11 strikeouts in the first game, and the Lions (6-1) scored four runs in the first inning of the finale and held on to give Tanner Brown the pitching win and Adam Sanders his third save of the season.

Leadoff batter Zach Vick was 2-for-3, stole three bases and scored three runs in Saturday's first game for Bryan, and Shane Clawson was 2-for-3 with two RBIs while DeWayne Boyd homered and hit a sacrifice fly. Doug Stroup also was 2-for-3.

Kevin Layne was 2-for-2 behind Vick's 2-for-3 in the second game. Vick singled in the first inning, Layne tripled, Clawson and Billy Veal doubled and Andrew Smith had a sac fly.

Covenant's scheduled game Saturday at Oglethorpe was postponed.

• Lee 4, Shawnee State 0: At Cleveland, Jose Samayoa allowed one hit in five innings and three relievers finished the shutout for the Flames (8-0), and Roberto Reyes hit a three-run homer in the four-run fourth inning. Preston Scoggins was 2-for-3 for Lee, ranked third in the NAIA.

• Georgia Perimeter 10-8, Cleveland State 7-3: At the Georgia school, Grant Zawadski was 3-for-5 and Damo Dematteo had two RBIs in the first loss for the Cougars (2-2), and Cody Hiefnar and Collin Sullivan each was 2-for-4 with an RBI in game two.
