University of Tennessee at Chattanooga senior safety D.J. Key was cited by UTC Police early Sunday morning and charged with vandalism. According to the misdemeanor citation, an intoxicated Key kicked in the door to his residence at Stophel Apartments, causing an estimated $300 in damages.

Key's citation happened around the same time that tight end Faysal Shafaat -- like Key, an All-Southern Conference player last season -- was arrested and charged with public intoxication and indecent exposure.

Mocs coach Russ Huesman said Monday that he and athletic director David Blackburn were aware of Key's citation, as they are Shafaat's arrest, and will decide on any punishment.

A team captain last season, Key was second on the team with 82 tackles. He sat out spring practice due to offseason surgery on his left foot and is still working his way back to full strength. Key's court appearance is scheduled for July 23; Shafaat's is July 24.
