GNTC continues food drive work and more Chattanooga region sports news

The Georgia Northwestern Technical College basketball teams continue to help the Care Mission of LaFayette collect food for needy people, and the Bobcats' annual "food drive" game is set for Jan. 31 at 4 p.m. against Oxford College at the Rossville Athletic Center. The Bobcats and Lady Bobcats also fill baskets with food, apart from trying to do so with basketballs. "Once we found out that the Care Mission was down here, we wanted to do something, anything to help," GNTC athletic director and coach David Stephenson said in a school release. "The first couple of years, we just collected food on our own with the players. The last four years, though, we've held food drive games. We still collect our own baskets as teams and have already done so this year." Fans will be admitted free to the Jan. 31 game if they donate a food item.

* The Lookout Valley High School basketball teams helped the annual Toys for Tots campaign with a special promotion at their Dec. 16 doubleheader, and athletic director Kristen Clounch said it was a big success. Fans brought toys for donation. That same night, the school recognized the Valley's recreation league basketball teams and cheerleaders, and their families contributed to the toy drive. The K-4 preschool class at Lookout Valley Elementary helped as well. "We appreciate everyone's involvement in making Christmas special for so many children," Clounch said.
