Playing in the Great Northwest wasn't great fun on day one.

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's golf team shot 28 over par and is tied for 19th place after the first round of the NCAA West Regional at Cle Elum, Wash.

The Mocs, who were led by a 5-over 77 from senior Jordan Britt, need to move up the leaderboard today and again Saturday to extend their season into the NCAA championship tournament.

The Mocs trail tournament leader Southern California by 30 strokes, but their goal of advancing is a little closer. The top eight teams from this site move on, and Iowa State and California-Davis are tied for seventh at 12 over.

The difficult course of Tumble Creek Club at Suncadia Resort yielded just four birdies for UTC's five competing golfers. Southern Conference medalist Emily McLennan shot an 8-over 80 with two birdies, and Agathe Sauzon made two birdies in an 81. Britt is tied for 62nd.

Eleven golfers shot under par Thursday, led by USC's Kyung Kim at 66.
