Tennessee Wesleyan beats Cumberland, 6-4

The NAIA's 13th-ranked Tennessee Wesleyan College baseball team scored three runs in the seventh inning and won 6-4 Tuesday at Cumberland University in Lebanon, Tenn.

Tyler Albert doubled and singled and batted in three runs for Wesleyan (26-8). His double put the visitors ahead 3-1 in the fifth and his single in the seventh put them ahead to stay. Chris Washington was the winning pitcher, giving up three runs in six innings, and Wardy Polanco had three hits for TWC.

Justin Byrd was 4-for-5 and scored twice for Cumberland (8-21).

* Bryan 8, Lindsey Wilson 7: At Dayton, the Lions (27-9) edged the Kentucky team as Preston King homered twice and drove in three runs, Langston Calhoun had a two-run shot and C.J. Owens was 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run. Alex Bautista was 3-for-5 with two homers and four RBIs for Lindsey Wilson (22-12).

* Tennessee Temple 6-2, Bluefield 5-6: At Bluefield, Va., the visiting Crusaders jumped ahead 6-0 and held on in the first game, when Micah Wyatt was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, Ryan Bruce also batted in two runs and Cade Shadrick was 2-for-2 and scored two. Temple (14-6) got only three hits in game two, but Chase Burke had a two-run double.

Sawyer McLamb was 4-for-4 and Tyler Timmer was 3-for-4 with a triple and three RBIs in game one for Bluefield (20-12).

* Cleveland State 2-6, Tusculum JV 0-3: At Cleveland, the Cougars ended a seven-game losing streak with a doubleheader sweep as Drew Korzybski pitched a six-hit shutout and Blake Thomas went 3-for-3 and Chris Caffrey was 2-for-3 with an RBI in the first game and Wright Hackett had two doubles and an RBI in game two.

Conner Coakley was 0-for-1 and scored twice in the second game for Cleveland State (14-14), when six Cougars pitchers held the Pioneers to three hits.

* Berry 6, Covenant 2: At Rome, Ga., Alex McGill was 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs as the Vikings (16-12-1) beat the Scots for the second time this season. Will Carlton and Luke Harvey each was 2-for-4 for Covenant (9-15), which took a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning but gave up single runs in the bottom of the fourth and in the sixth and four in the seventh.

* Maryville 10, Sewanee 1: At Sewanee, Michael Hawks was 2-for-3 with two two-run homers to lead the visiting Scots (20-10) in the NCAA Division III nonconference matchup. Nick Dean was 3-for-5 and Jerod Dickey (3-0) and four relief pitchers held the Tigers (8-14) to seven hits. For Sewanee, Blake Bays was 2-for-2 with a double and Tyler Minkkinen had the RBI.
