The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga football team has named five captains for this season.

Senior quarterback Jacob Huesman, senior defensive tackle Josh Freeman, senior offensive lineman Synjen Herren, senior linebacker A.J. Hampton and junior defensive end Keionta Davis were those selected by the players to lead the eighth-ranked Mocs in 2015.

Huesman had 3,740 yards of total offense and 37 combined touchdowns a season ago. Freeman finished with four sacks and 7.5 tackles for loss, while Davis had 5.5 sacks, 10.5 tackles for loss and an interception.

Hampton, who is moving into the strongside linebacker position vacated by new middle linebacker Nakevion Leslie, had 31 tackles last season. Herren, a two-time preseason all-Southern Conference selection, missed the 2014 season after tearing his ACL during preseason camp.

"They are a great group of guys," UTC coach Russ Huesman said Sunday. "They aren't the only ones that will lead this team, but they are a great group. All five of those guys are fantastic human beings and great players."

It's the quarterback's third selection as a captain, making him the first Moc in recent history to do so. It's Freeman's second consecutive year, while it's the first time for Herren, Hampton and Davis.

Hampton said the next step is continuing to do what he's done to be named a captain.

"I'm excited about it," Hampton said. "I've been working hard all summer, and I felt like I've been trying to be a good influence on the people around me. I've just tried to be on time for everything and do the right thing, and I guess everybody liked that and voted for me. I'm proud of it, I feel good about it and I'm ready to lead."

Speedy delivery

The UTC athletic department will hold a "30 minutes or less" ticket promotion today, with one final push to sell single-game and season tickets prior to Saturday's 6 p.m. season opener against No. 7 Jacksonville State at Finley Stadium.

If you work or live within 5 miles of campus, tickets will be delivered in 30 minutes or less, or they are free. Only ticket orders made over the phone will be eligible for the promotion. Call the ticket office at 423-266-MOCS (6627) to take part in the promotion. Orders must be made between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.

The Mocs are about 300 season tickets sold away from breaking the record of 2,768 set in 2011. Fans outside the 5-mile radius for today's promotion can still purchase tickets by calling the ticket office.

Former Moc cut

Former UTC defensive tackle Derrick Lott was one of 10 players cut by the Tennessee Titans on Sunday as the NFL team starts to whittle its roster to 53 players.

Lott signed a free-agent deal in April. The former Moc, who started his career with the University of Georgia, finished with one tackle in limited preseason action for the Titans.
