Kentucky's Reese Phillips out for spring

Kentucky redshirt sophomore quarterback Reese Phillips ruptured his Achilles' tendon Wednesday and will miss spring practice.

The Wildcats are scheduled to start spring drills Saturday.

Phillips, the 6-foot-2, 218-pound former Signal Mountain High standout, was set to compete with junior Patrick Towles and redshirt freshman Drew Barker. Towles started throughout last season, when the Wildcats raced out to a 5-1 start but finished 5-7.

In three appearances in 2014, Phillips completed two of nine passes for 45 yards and an interception.
