The Cleveland State basketball teams both won home games Tuesday evening against four-year schools' junior varsities. The Cleveland State men leveled their season record at 1-1 with a 111-59 rout of the Tennessee Wesleyan JV, after the Lady Cougars rose to 2-0 by holding off the University of the Cumberlands' scholarshipped JV women 64-57. Cumberlands led by one after the second of four quarters and got 19 points from Sierrra Anderson and 17 from Brandi Smith. JLlynn Majors had 17 points and four steals to lead the Lady Cougars, while Leisa Butler and Jaclyn Griffith each collected 10 rebounds. Darrion Leslie led the Cougars with 23 points, and Dontrell Whitaker had 14 points and 11 rebounds while Courtland Crutcher scored 13 points and matched Jaleen Lyons' four steals. Q.D. Cox was 4-for-5 on 3-point shots for 12 points. The Cleveland teams open TJCAA play Friday at Southwest Tennessee.

Soccer

* Gulf South Conference player of the year David Perez scored two goals for Lee University, but the Flames lost 3-2 to visiting West Florida in a GSC men's soccer tournament quarterfinal Tuesday night. West Florida (11-5), coached by Chattanooga Football Club coach Bill Elliott, took a 2-0 lead in the first 13 minutes and answered Perez's first goal at 35:29 with a penalty kick for a 3-1 margin at 36:22. That was scored by Felipe Oliveira, who had the opening goal. Perez's 16th goal of the season was double-assisted by Travis Kiger and Jose Orellana, and his 17th was assisted by Jonathan Finlay at 82:15. The outcome left the Flames at 11-5-2.

* Bryan College sophomore center back Stephen Ricketts was the Appalachian Athletic Conference men's soccer defensive player of the week for his part in the Lions' 3-0 shutout of Truett-McConnell, which locked up their regular-season league title. Ricketts scored one of the goals. Bryan (11-4-2, 8-0-1) will host ninth seed Montreat (8-6-2, 1-6-2) in the league tournament quarterfinals Saturday at 7 p.m. Fourth seed Tennessee Wesleyan (8-8-1, 5-3-1) will play a home game at 11 a.m. against fifth seed St. Andrews (8-6-1, 4-5).

* The Bryan College women's soccer team plays tonight at Bluefield in the AAC tournament. Bryan's Lady Lions (4-8-4) are seeded ninth out of 11 teams with a 2-4-4 AAC record, and Bluefield (5-6-4) is the eighth seed at 3-4-3. The winner tonight will play Saturday at 12:30 at No. 1 seed Reinhardt. Tennessee Wesleyan (7-7-3) is the fourth seed at 5-3-2 in league play and hosts fifth seed Union College (11-4-3, 4-3-3) at 2 p.m. Saturday.

* Dalton State College will play Friday at William Carey in Hattiesburg, Miss., at 8 p.m. EST in the Southern States Athletic Conference men's soccer tournament. Dalton State (11-6-1) is the No. 5 seed after going 4-4 in the SSAC in the Roadrunners' first year of existence. Carey's Crusaders are 9-6-3 overall, 4-2-2 in the league.

Cross Country

* The Dalton State cross country teams will compete Friday morning in the SSAC meet near Clinton, Miss., and the Lady Roadrunners are the defending league champions with freshman star Emily Poole added to a roster filled with returners. The women will run a 5-kilometer race beginning at 9 a.m. EST; the men's 8k is schedule for 9:40. The DSC men were second by three points to William Carey in 2014 and are led again by Spencer Head and Paul Patterson.

High School

* David Condra of Hixson, Chase Payne of Soddy-Daisy and John Rymer and Shelby Wilson of McMinn County were announced Tuesday as four of the five Tennessee finalists for the Wendy's High School Heisman award as top overall student-athletes. Hiwassee Dam's Haylie Shope also was included in the Tennessee group. One male and one female will be announced Monday as state winners, and 10 national finalists will be chosen from that group before the national winners are selected and announced on Dec. 11.
