University of Tennessee at Chattanooga outside hitter Allie Davenport registered 25 and 26 kills and 11 and 15 digs in come-from-behind weekend road wins that gave the Mocs the Southern Conference regular-season volleyball championship, and for that performance she's the league's offensive player of the week. Davenport served the final point in the fifth set at East Tennessee State, when UTC trailed 11-0 and 14-4 but won 21-19 for the match. The Mocs won the next night at Western Carolina and go back there for the SoCon tournament this weekend as the top seed. They'll face WCU or The Citadel at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

* Ooltewah High School volleyball teammates Alex Biro and Hanna Matthews helped each other get to a point of celebration Monday at the school, where both signed scholarships from in-state NCAA Division II universities. They were co-MVPs of District 5-AAA this season and also the region. Matthews, who signed with Trevecca Nazarene, was the setter for 3,268 assists as the Lady Owls went 171-50 in four years, and 6-footer Biro made 1,273 kills and 351 blocks in the same span. She signed with Carson-Newman. The 5-9 Matthews made 222 kills and 203 blocks and served 174 aces in four years, while Biro served 99 and had 173 digs. "Not only do they stand out athletically, but they stand out academically and are among the best leaders in the school," Ooltewah coach Elaine Peigen said. Biro's family moved from Florida the summer before her freshman year, after years of visiting her grandfather's vacation home near Fall Creek Falls, and the Lady Owls volleyball program was part of why they picked the Ooltewah area. She also strongly considered East Tennessee State for her college career but was impressed by Carson-Newman's team under former Cal Santa Barbara assistant Dan Ahiers. "The volleyball team is absolutely phenomenal," Biro said. Matthews picked Trevecca over Alabama-Huntsville, Lee and Berry. "That was the place I felt God was opening the door for me to go," she said.

Basketball

* Corey McDonald scored 22 points as the Dalton State men's basketball evened its season record at 2-2 with an 87-81 victory over Morris College on Monday at Sumter, S.C. DSC's Roadrunners hit 30 of their 45 shots from the floor and 25 of 34 free throws, but the hosts shot almost as well and made 11 3-point baskets compared to two in five attempts for the winners. The Roadrunners will play their home opener at the Dalton Convention Center on Thursday.

* DaV Moore scored 22 points as Chattanooga State improved its men's basketball record to 7-2 with a 94-64 win Monday over the Reinhardt junior varsity - the Tigers' second victory at the Waleska, Ga., school this month. Larry Spicer and Brandon Shingles added 10 points each for Chattanooga State.

Golf

* Farragut High School senior Brian Clark signed scholarship papers last week to play golf for Lee University. The Admirals won a Class AAA state championship and were runners-up the other three years of his career, and he was an all-state individual as sophomore and the district runner-up this fall. He won the men's club championship at Fox Den as a 16-year-old, won a Tennessee Junior Golf Association event with a record 62 and had two top-five finishes and another top-10 in AJGA open tournaments. He said he also considered Charlotte, Southern Mississippi, Memphis and Tennessee Tech, according to a Lee release. "Brian is a tremendous addition to our program," Flames coach John Maupin said in the release. "He has the game to come in and make an impact from day one. He has proven himself as one of the best juniors in the state, and he also has high-level team-golf experience."
