Keiana Gilbert hit a layup with 6.6 seconds to play to give the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's basketball team a 55-54 victory over Arkansas State in front of 1,189 fans at McKenzie Arena.
The Mocs (4-2) trailed by as many as 17 in the third quarter, hitting their first six shot attempts - five 3-pointers and a 3-point play by Aundrea Gamble for a 44-27 lead. UTC rallied on the strength of some clutch 3-point shooting off the bench by Anna Claire Noblit, who hit a trio of 3-pointers.
Her third gave the Mocs a 47-44 lead with 5:18 to play, but the Lady Red Wolves would answer with an 8-2 run to retake the lead on a Khadija Brown-Haywood 3-pointer from the corner, but Gilbert would score the team's final six points to give the team the lead.
The Mocs had to sweat out a missed layup attempt by Gamble to seal the win.
Gilbert finished with 14 points and eight rebounds to lead the Mocs. Joyner finished with 12 points, four assists and a pair of blocks.
Gamble led the Lady Red Wolves with 17 points, eight rebounds, five steals and four assists.
The Mocs host UT-Martin Saturday at 6 at McKenzie Arena.
