The Lee University men's golf team set a program record and a University of North Georgia Fall Invitational record in winning the two-day tournament at Achasta Golf Club in Dahlonega with an 836. Lee's Shea Sylvester, Peyton Sliger and Taylor Davis were second, third and fourth individually at 206, 207 and 208 - Sylvester following an opening 75 with a 66 and a 65.

Basketball

* The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's basketball team is ranked 22nd in the Athlon Sports preseason poll. Coach Jim Foster's Mocs return nine players from the team that beat Tennessee and Stanford on the way to the 2015 NCAA tournament. The program's best preseason ranking was 16th by Street & Smith's in 2004.

Soccer

* UTC beat The Citadel 2-1 in their Southern Conference makeup women's soccer match Tuesday at Greenville, S.C. The Mocs (3-8-2, 1-2-1) rallied from a halftime deficit for the program's first SoCon win since edging The Citadel 3-2 in 2012. Senior Skylar Brewer took a Molly Miller punt to a one-on-one with the keeper for the tying goal at 65:14, and senior Clare Latham scored at 71:48 from a cross by freshman Maddy Coleman. The Mocs had a 19-11 edge in shots. "This was a huge win for us," first-year coach Gavin McKinney said in a UTC release. "Maybe this will give us some momentum going into the matches this weekend." The Mocs host UNC Greensboro at 7 p.m. Friday evening and VMI at 2 p.m. Sunday.

* Lee University had two Gulf South Conference soccer players of the week: junior David Perez as the men's offensive honoree and sophomore goalkeeper Haley Gribler as the women's top defender. Perez had a goal in each game as the Flames (7-2-1) won 2-1 at both West Florida and Spring Hill; the Dalton resident leads Division II's No. 23-ranked team with nine goals this season. Gribler had seven saves, including one on a penalty kick with 1:17 to go in regulation, in the Lady Flames' 1-0 overtime win at UWF.

* Bryan College goalkeeper Morgana Hardt da Silva was the Appalachian Athletic Conference women's soccer defensive player of the week after recording 14 saves in one game and five in the other, allowing one goal in each, as they went 0-1-1. She leads the AAC with 7.89 saves per game.

* Tennessee Wesleyan won both parts of its AAC soccer doubleheader against visiting Point on Tuesday, 3-0 in the women's game and 4-2 in the men's. TWC's Lady Bulldogs are 5-5-1 overall and 4-2 and in third place in the AAC; the Bulldogs are 6-4-1 and in fourth at 3-1-1.

* The Dalton State men's soccer team has cracked the NAIA top 20 in its first season of existence. Now 9-2-1, the Roadrunners shot into the coaches' Top 25 poll Tuesday at No. 19.

* Covenant's women's soccer match scheduled for Tuesday against Berry was canceled due to unplayable field conditions.

Volleyball

* Lee University whipped Union University 3-0 (25-23, 25-15, 25-11) in a GSC volleyball match Tuesday in Cleveland. Silvia Sartori and Erin Hill had eight and six kills, Hillary Hoffpauir had 14 assists and Stephanie Hernandez had 10 digs to lead Lee (7-6, 3-5).

* Second-place Bryan was upset 3-0 in AAC volleyball Tuesday at Reinhardt, while Tennessee Wesleyan won 3-1 at Point. The set scores were 25-18, 27-25, 25-16 for Reinhardt and 25-22, 12-25, 27-25, 25-19 for TWC (7-9, 5-4). Bryan is 13-11, 9-2 in the league.

* The Georgia Northwestern volleyball team lost 3-1 (26-28, 25-22, 25-21, 25-18) to the Covenant junior varsity Monday despite 12 kills by Abbey Hannah and nine by Gabrille Pace. Nicole Rayburn had 12 assists. The two-year school dropped to 0-12.

Field Hockey

* The Sewanee field hockey team bounced back from back-to-back losses, its only defeats of the season, with four first-half goals and a 4-3 win Tuesday at Virginia Wesleyan. Catherine Estes scored just 2:46 into the contest for the Tigers (7-2), and Virginia Barry, Devon Davis and Emma Horgan made it 4-1 before the hosts scored the final two goals. Horgan, Carrie Anderson, Kat Mulligan and Katie Wilson had Sewanee assists.

Running

* Dalton State freshman Emily Poole from Heritage High School was named the Southern States Athletic Conference women's cross country runner of the week after finishing second in the Greater Louisville Classic silver division 5k on Saturday. That division included 44 teams. This was Poole's second honor this season.
