Lee track teams second, fourth at Berry meet

University of Tennessee at Chattanooga junior distance runner Maddison Melchionna was first in the 800-meter run and second in the 1,500 at the Western Kentucky Hilltopper Relays on Saturday.

She had times of 2 minutes, 10.43 seconds and 4:36.86 in those races, with the latter a personal best.

Teammate Hannah Chamblin's time of 2:13.77 in the 800 was also a personal best and good for third. In the 1,500, UTC's Jessica York (4:41.34) was sixth and Emily Drouin (personal-best 4:42.29) was seventh.

Competing in the 3,000 steeplechase for the first time, Mocs freshman Haley Morris was eighth in 11:59.16.

In men's competition, UTC freshman cross country runner Brennan Huber was second in the 800 at 1:55.77, while teammates Mark Britt and John Payne also had top-10 finishes. Britt was sixth in the 3,000 steeplechase at 10:14.73 and Payne was eighth in the 1,500 at 4:02.96.

Lee second, fourth

Lee University finished second out of 16 men's teams and fourth out of 17 women's squads in the Berry Field Day Invitational meet Saturday in Rome, Ga.

The Lee men had 103.5 points, just ahead of Emory's 100, with Shorter winning with 145.5.

Tennessee Wesleyan was fifth in the men's standings and eighth in the women's, and Sewanee was seventh and ninth with Bryan 14th and 12th.

In the 3,000 steeplechase, Lee's Camden Perez (9:29.48), Seth Eagleson and Davis Moore were first, second and fifth, and Harold Smith won the 800 (1:53.29) with teammate Emmanuel Kipchumba fifth and Sewanee's Amiel Emerson sixth. Kipchumba and Smith won the 4x400 relay (3:17.88) with freshman twins Justin and Josiah Brooks, who were second and third in the 400. Josiah won the triple jump (13.62 meters) with Tennessee Wesleyan's Isaiah Woodruff fourth.

Tennessee Wesleyan's Chaz Hawkins won the 400 hurdles (56.67) and was second in the 110 hurdles - with teammates Woodruff and Deshawn McCleary fifth and sixth - and anchored the third-place 4x400 team. The Bulldogs' Cadarius Harris, Steven Dodd, Josh Parsons and Sheldon Wilson were second in the 4x100 relay, and teammate Jacob Simmons was second in the 1,500 with Lee's Garret Flores and Brandon Raleigh fourth and fifth. Harris and Parsons were third and sixth in the 100.

Bryan's Tyler Boone and Sewanee's Logan Stockton were second and third in the men's 5,000, and Sewanee's Tyler Fishback and Ridge Davis were second in the high jump and javelin throw, respectively.

Tennessee Wesleyan's Chris Anderson was third in men's discus, and Lee's Christian Smith was fourth in shot put and fifth in hammer throw. Lee's Stephen Cannon and Hunter Goforth were fifth in the 200 and the long jump, respectively, and Sewanee's Lonnie Scott was sixth in the shot.

In the women's competition, Lee's Adrian Martin won the 100 (12.04) and finished second in the 200 with Tennessee Wesleyan's Alexandria Johnson fifth and seventh, and Lee's Audrey Smith won the 3,000 steeplechase (11:28.44) with Sewanee's L'Or Puymartin fifth in a school-record time of 12:14.92. Bryan and Lee were second and third in the 4x400 relay.

Tennessee Wesleyan's Rachel Lawhorn was second in shot put and discus and third in javelin, just behind Sewanee's Karagan Day. Lee's Miranda Broesche was fifth in hammer throw, and Tennessee Wesleyan's Ally McNulty and Gracie Smith were fifth and sixth in high jump with teammate Brenna Kusch sixth in long jump.

Sewanee's Amy Lee and Tennessee Wesleyan's Leah Chance were fourth and fifth in the 1,500, Lee's Amy Carpenter was fourth in the 5,000 and teammate Moneque Beckford was fifth in the 400.

Mills a CNU winner

Carson-Newman junior Tiana Mills from Chattanooga and Girls Preparatory School won the women's long jump at 5.13 meters and was second in the triple jump at the University of the Cumberlands track and field meet Saturday. CNU's T.J. Davis from Ooltewah was second in the men's long jump.
