Dalton State's Poole wins two SSAC track events

Dalton State freshman Emily Poole from Heritage High School won the women's 1500- and 5000-meter runs with meet-record times of 4:51.80 and 18:33.54 at the Southern States Athletic Conference track and field championships this past weekend at Mobile, Ala., and teammate Nayeli Jacobo came off an injury redshirt in the fall cross country season and finished second in the 5000.

The Roadrunners' Paul Schupp (16:13.87) and Cole Thornton were first and second in the men's 5000 and third and second in the 1500 behind the national cross country champion from William Carey.

Dalton State doesn't officially have a track team, so the four were running as individuals.

Tigers' Couch wins

Sewanee's Davis Couch won the men's 400-meter hurdles by a millisecond in 57.64 seconds in the Southern Athletic Association meet this past weekend at Birmingham, and teammate Tyler Fishback was second in the high jump with Amy Lee second in the women's 1500 run, Amiel Emerson and Alec Hill second and third in the men's 800 and Couch, Ky Anderson, Hill and Emerson second as a group in the 4x400 relay.

Karagan Day and Rachel Hudson joined them with all-conference honors with third-place finishes in the women's triple jump and discus, respectively. Jackson Goodwin was fourth in the men's 1500 and Cortez Brown was fourth in the 100.
