KNOXVILLE -- A university student judicial panel ruled the student conduct violations charged against Tennessee defensive tackle Alexis Johnson were "unfounded," his attorney Gregory P. Isaacs announced Thursday afternoon.
The junior college transfer remains suspended from the football team, however, according to program spokesman Ryan Robinson.
Johnson was suspended in February after he was charged with aggravated assault and false imprisonment following an incident with his ex-girlfriend.
In April the false imprisonment charge was dropped and the assault charge was reduced from a felony to a misdemeanor, which also would be dropped after a six-month probationary period.
The Knox County district attorney reached the resolution after reviewing the evidence and consulting with Johnson's accuser, who was one of the eight plaintiffs in the Title IX sexual assault lawsuit settled last month by the university for $2.48 million.
Johnson, whose probation runs into mid-October, has not been with the team during his suspension and is neither listed on the roster on Tennessee's official web site nor in the team's media guide, though he's listed as an active student in Tennessee's online directory.
A consensus four-star recruit from Atlanta, Johnson enrolled in Tennessee in January after playing two seasons at Fort Scott Community College in Kansas, where 41 tackles, 12.5 for loss and 8.5 sacks in 2015.
