University of Tennessee at Chattanooga golfer Wes Gosselin stretched his lead from two strokes to 10 on the second day of the Tennessee Amateur Championship at Blackthorn Club in Jonesborough. Gosselin, who's from Knoxville and entering his senior season with the Mocs, set a blistering pace with his 8-under-par 64 in Wednesday's 18 holes on the 7,068-yard layout. That pushed him to 13-under 131 for the tournament, ahead of Lee University golfer Taylor Davis from Franklin and Germantown's Tim Jackson, who are tied for second. Jackson (a six-time tournament champion) shot a 66 in the second round, when Davis had a 71. Gosselin started Wednesday's round on No. 10, and after pars on his first two holes, he birdied seven of his next eight, with a double bogey on the par-4 17th breaking the string. He also had birdies on Nos. 4, 7 and 8. Chattanooga's Lake Johnson, Manchester's Matt Johnson and Lee golfer Peyton Sliger of Knoxville - the 2015 tourney champ - are tied with five others for 18th at 3-over 147, while Signal Mountain's Mikey Feher, Knoxville's Stuart Thomas and Chattanooga's Andrew Weathers - the latter two both play for the Mocs - are part of a 10-man jam in 26th at 4-over 148. Feher, preparing for his senior season at Lipscomb University, is coming off a strong victory this past weekend in the Brainerd Invitational. Another UTC golfer, Chattanooga's Brooks Thomas, is tied for 49th at 7-over 151 and was part of the last group to make the cut. Missing the cut were Sewanee's Tommy Oliver and Athens' Mike Poe. The 72-hole Tennessee Golf Association tournament, which is in its 101st edition, is scheduled to continue today and finish Friday.
