Senior guard Z Arima had 26 points as he set a career high in scoring for the second time in four games, but the Covenant College men's basketball lost for the second straight game, falling 101-85 late Saturday night at Whitman College in Walla Walla, Wash. Whitman, ranked fourth in NCAA Division III, earned its sixth straight win to start the season. The Scots (4-3) lost 93-62 Friday at Whitworth University in Spokane, Wash. The back-to-back losses are the first for Covenant in 25 games, a stretch dating to last January, according to a school release. Arima was 10-for-16 from the field, splitting his baskets and attempts from in front of and behind the 3-point line. He was aided by 17 points from Berto Dryden and 15 from Patjo Twagirzyezu, who also had seven rebounds and two blocks, and Bailey Spragg added seven points, six assists, five rebounds and two steals. But the Scots committed 24 turnovers to Whitman's nine, and they took just three free throws - making two - while the Blues went 19-for-24 at the foul line. Whitman - led by 26 points from starter Tim Howell and 25 from reserve Joey Hewitt - led 46-37 at halftime.

- The Georgia Northwestern Technical College men beat Georgia Gwinnett College 66-64 Saturday in the final game of the Tim Walthour Memorial Tournament at the Rossville Athletic Center, while the GNTC women lost 89-41 to Southern Crescent Tech. In the Bobcats' win, Darrius Fugh led with 19 points and eight rebounds, Alec Rattanaxay added 12 points and five assists and Daniel Parrish scored 11 points. Patrick Simmons and Andrew Johnson made key free throws late for GNTC - with Johnson also taking a pair of charges in the final minute - and Georgia Gwinnett's final bucket came with almost no time on the clock. That all followed a sequence inside the final four minutes when the Grizzlies had six straight offensive rebounds and as many misses from around the basket before the Bobcats got the ball back. In the women's game, Sharqueva McCoy tallied 22 points and 12 rebounds, Kambria Bankston added 12 points on 4-for-5 3-point shooting and Sprite Dyer grabbed nine rebounds for the Lady Bobcats (0-8). Aurelia Mangham scored 30 points to lead Southern Crescent, which went 13-for-24 behind the arc.

- Reinhardt's women held off a second-half push by host Montreat (N.C.) College to win an Appalachian Athletic Conference matchup 70-63 Saturday, with Sonoraville High School graduate Rebecca Cheeks registering game highs in points (24) and rebounds (10). The Lady Eagles (10-1, 6-1) continued the best start in program history - it's the earliest date they've ever reached 10 wins - and assured themselves of a share of first place in the conference at least until AAC play resumes in January. Dade County graduate Erika Woodfin added 16 points with two steals and two assists.
