Former Bryan College volleyball standout Jessica Day has been named head coach of the Lady Lions after working as an assistant the past three seasons.

After three years as an assistant, Jessica Day has been elevated to head coach for the Bryan College women's volleyball team.

A Bryan standout player as Jessica Kaya from 2008 to 2011, when she totaled 1,480 digs, she succeeds Dave Shumaker, who left the Dayton school in December to become the head coach at Northwood University in Midland, Mich.

Jessica is married to Bryan assistant baseball coach Jordan Day, and they are expecting their first child in July.

"I am so thrilled to have Jessica on board as our next head volleyball coach," Bryan athletic director Taylor Hasty said in the announcement release. "She is a wonderful young woman who loves the Lord and this institution. She will do a great job as our head coach."

She was a volunteer assistant for the 2013 Lady Lions team that won a school-record 33 matches and went 19-1 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference, winning both the regular-season and tournament titles for the NAIA league. Bryan went undefeated in the conference the following year and won its fourth consecutive regular-season championship last fall.

"I am so honored to be able to come back to my alma mater and lead the program as head coach," Day said. "I am extremely blessed to be in this position where I am surrounded by both great athletics and great academics in a community that cares about the well-being of the student-athletes."
