Leland Robinson had 24 points, 11 rebounds and four steals as Tennessee Wesleyan College defeated Union College 90-83 Monday night at Milligan in the Appalachian Athletic Conference playoff for a berth in the NAIA Division II men's basketball national tournament. Another AAC representative will be determined with this week's league tournament at Kingsport, Tenn., and Monday's win also gave 14th-ranked TWC (27-2) the top seed with fifth-ranked Union (25-6) No. 2. Wesleyan will play Wednesday morning's winner between Truett-McConnell (9-20) and St. Andrews (9-16) at 8:30 a.m. Thursday. Trey Suttles had 18 points, seven rebounds and two blocked shots in Monday's win, while Devante' Jenkins was 7-of-9 from the field for 14 points with nine rebounds and Charles White and Tre Tiller contributed 13 and 10 points and four and six assists. Ikeem Bergeron also scored 10 points. The TWC women (14-9) are seeded third and play Union (15-13) or St. Andrews (2-24) at 9:15 p.m. Thursday.

* Bryan College senior Brandon Cole from Crossville, Tenn., was the AAC men's basketball player of the week after averaging 30 points and eight rebounds in the Lions' two games last week. The leading scorer and rebounder in NAIA Division II and reigning AAC player of the year will lead the sixth-seeded Lions (13-14) against third seed Reinhardt (16-13) in the league tournament Thursday at 5:15 p.m. The Bryan women (25-4, 17-3) are co-champs with Milligan and seeded second; they open against seventh seed Reinhardt (13-18) or Columbia (6-22) at 7:30 Thursday. In Reinhardt's 69-53 home loss to Bluefield on Saturday, Jada Hubbard from Heritage High School had 16 points, eight rebounds and five steals.

* Covenant College freshman Joanna Smith from Chattanooga Christian was chosen the USA South women's basketball rookie of the week for the sixth time as the Lady Scots wrapped up the 2015-16 season. They lost out on a tiebreaker for the final spot in the league tournament. Smith averaged 15.3 points and 10 rebounds in their last three games and 12.1 points and 9.5 rebounds for the season.

* The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's golf team is tied for first in the USA Women's Invitational at the Azalea City course at Mobile, Ala., and the men's team is in second place among 15 teams after Monday's two rounds in the Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate tournament at Magnolia Grove Crossings. UTC and host South Alabama are at 591, three shots ahead of Eastern Kentucky, in the women's event, with the Mocs' Cris Perez tied for second individually at even-par 144 and Megan Woods, Monica San Juan and Emily McLennan tied for ninth, 11th and 13th at 148, 149 and 150. The UTC men are eight shots behind nationally fourth-ranked Auburn and six ahead of third-place Georgia State with 18 holes to go. Brooks Thomas and Andrew Weathers share sixth individually after a pair of 71s each as part of the team's 568, and teammates Lake Johnson and Kory Webb are tied for 12th at 143 with Wes Gosselin tied for 18th at 144. The Mocs' Stuart Thomas is tied for fifth at 144 in the USA Individual on Magnolia Grove's Falls Course.

* The Lee women's golf team is in second place but 20 shots behind Montevallo in the Lady Cougar Classic hosted by Columbus State. Lee's Bernadette Little and Sam Burrus are tied for fourth individually at 78, and Caroline Moore is tied for seventh at 80 with Callie Kitchens 12th at 83.

* Dalton State's women lead the Georgetown College Women's Invitational by 13 strokes with their 304 in the first round Monday at World Golf Village near St. Augustine, Fla., and the Dalton State men are second at 296, four strokes behind William Carey. DSC's Julia McQuilken leads individually at 72 with teammates Katie Dalton, Erika Wardzinski and Carly Shane third, fourth and tied for fifth at 74, 75 and 77. For the men, the Roadrunners' Sean Elliott is third for third at 72 with Levi Nix at 73, Chase Jones at 75 and Adam Morris and Anthony D'Angelo at 76.
