Covenant College has hired Arte Culver to succeed Kyle Taylor as men's basketball coach. Culver, who played on Rice University teams that set a four-year program record of 73 wins and played in two National Invitation Tournaments, was an assistant coach the last two years at Wheaton College in Illinois, after serving one year as the basketball scholastic coordinator and video coordinator at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Culver was a four-time scholar athlete at Rice, where he got bachelor's and master's degrees in mathematics and was a two-time Arthur Ashe Scholar. "I am grateful for my experience as a college basketball player and having had the privilege to serve, learn and grow under many great coaching mentors," Culver said in the release. " I look forward to building on last season's success and fostering a culture that sustains that level of excellence." The 2015-16 Scots went 18-10 and made the program's first NCAA tournament appearance, and Peter Wilkerson is remaining as assistant coach. Culver and his wife, Julia, have two sons and a daughter.
