The best men's basketball season in Covenant College history ended Friday in a 76-51 loss at Emory in the NCAA Division IIII tournament first round.

The Scots ended at 18-10, the .643 winning percentage being the best for the program. They last compiled 18 wins in 1995-96.

Emory (19-7) will face Birmingham-Southern today in the second round. BSC, which beat Sewanee for the Southern Athletic Association tournament title, edged LaGrange from Covenant's league Friday, 93-91.

Covenant missed 19 of its first 20 shots from the field and trailed 26-3 with 5:35 left in the first half Friday night. The Scots quickly cut 10 points off that margin and shrank a 33-17 halftime deficit to 33-22 as the final period began, but the Eagles matched that 5-0 run and maintained a double-digit lead.

TJ Cox led the Scots with 12 points, and Robby Bell was next with nine. Each made three 3-point baskets. Will Trawick and Austin DaGue scored 17 and 16 points for Emory.
