Bryan, Wesleyan teams reach AAC soccer semifinals

The Bryan College and Tennessee Wesleyan soccer teams all advanced Saturday to AAC tournament semifinals, the women's teams both on penalty kicks after 1-1 ties.

Bryan's men beat Point 4-0 in a quarterfinal at home, while the Lady Lions prevailed at Point. At Athens, the TWU women (11-5-2) got past St. Andrews and the Bulldogs (11-3-4) nipped Truett-McConnell 1-0 on Joe Taylor's PK at 81:49.

Joe Goreham made a steal and a score 3:28 into the men's match for Bryan (15-1-3), which will host TWU on Thursday, and Rafael Mentzingen, Brad Spooner and Dino Jones scored later. Paige Klose scored from a Hana Mizoguchi assist and Morgana Hardt da Silva had six saves for the Lady Lions (10-9-1), who moved on with PKs by Kimberly Warden, Mary Mai Berchtold, da Silva, Mizoguchi and Klose.

Jessica Young converted a Madison Young assist for the Lady Bulldogs (11-5-2), who were 6-of-6 in the shootout.
