KNOXVILLE -- Tennessee coach Butch Jones's injury update on Monday included what can be considered ominous news on linebacker Jalen Reeves-Maybin.

The senior team captain pulled himself out of the game against Florida due to the shoulder injury he suffered against Ohio, and he did not play in last week's win at Georgia.

His status for Saturday's trip to Texas A&M and beyond appears very up in the air.

"We're continuing to gather information on Jalen Reeves-Maybin to try to make the best decision to present to him with his different options," Jones said.

"I'll know a little bit more later in the week."

Tennessee's defense already lost All-SEC cornerback Cameron Sutton (ankle) and promising linebacker Quart'e Sapp (knee) to long-term injuries.

On Monday of last week Jones said he expected Reeves-Maybin to play against the Bulldogs, but doubt grew about his status as the week progressed after he underwent some tests later in the week.

It's possible Reeves-Maybin could decide to have his shoulder repaired now with an eye on his NFL career, one he passed on this offseason to stay and play his senior year with the Volunteers.

The news on fellow linebacker Darrin Kirkland Jr., who hurt his ankle against Virginia Tech and missed the past three games, is a bit more positive.

Jones said Tennessee is in "wait-and-see" mode regarding Kirkland's status for Texas A&M.

"He did do some running Thursday and Friday," Jones said. "Today we're going to do some different cutting drills to see if he can match the movements the linebacker position brings about with different bursts and accelerations. I'll know a little bit more on him probably later in the week."

Cornerback Justin Martin will return from a one-game suspension for violating team rules, but he must earn his spot on the travel roster for Texas A&M.

"If he makes the trip will be based on his performance on the field this week in practice.

Running back Jalen Hurd, who missed most of the second half with what Jones after the game called a "lower extremity" injury, will practice on Monday and is expected to play against the Aggies.
