Chicago-area recruit Maurice Commander will visit Mocs men's basketball team

Maurice Commander, a 6-foot guard from the Chicago area, will be on the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga campus this weekend for an official visit with the Mocs basketball program, according to his Twitter page.

Commander is entering his senior season at Curie High School. As a junior, he averaged 13 points and three assists per game on the way to receiving all-state honorable mention.

Justin Brown, who will be a freshman center for the Mocs in 2017-18, played at Chicago's Marist High School. He and Commander played together in the Chicago Young and Reckless AAU program.

The left-handed Commander was a fast-rising prospect on the recruiting circuit this summer. Once considered a Division I low-major or Division II prospect, Commander had an impressive AAU season, adding offers from Wofford, Youngstown State and Missouri State to go along with UTC. He has set up official visits to those four schools.

According to PrepHoops.com, he is "dynamic attacking in the open floor and gets to the rim. Can also knock down a shot, especially off the catch. Great leadership qualities out of this rising senior both as a vocal leader and is the guy that finds others on the floor to make their games shine. The program that lands Commander will be getting a floor general that will be an impact guy."

His addition would give the Mocs two guards in their next signing class. They've already received a commitment from guard Donovann Toatley, which could give Rodney Chatman - the lone point guard on UTC's roster - an opportunity to play off the ball some.
