UTC wrestlers rout Davidson, lose to N.C. State

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga wrestling team split a pair of matches Saturday in North Carolina, with both its win and its loss occurring in lopsided fashion.

The Mocs started the afternoon with a 43-3 win at Davidson before falling 41 to minus-1 to sixth-ranked North Carolina State. The outcomes left the Mocs at 2-2 with their next dual match against second-ranked Ohio State on Dec. 17 in Atlanta. The following evening they wrestle at home against Ohio.

UTC won eight of the nine contested matches against Davidson, scoring bonus points in seven. Justin Lampe (174 pounds) and Bryce Carr (184) had pins, while Alonzo Allen (125), Wade Cummings (133) and Chad Pyke (165) scored technical-fall victories. Roman Boylen won an 18-4 major decision at 149 pounds, while Chris Debien (141) and Dylan Forzani (157) won by decision. Scottie Boykin won by forfeit.

Against the Wolfpack, three of the Mocs' losses came against top-10 opponents. Carr dropped a 2-1 decision to third-ranked Pete Renda and Boykin lost 8-2 to eighth-ranked Michael Macchiavello. Michael Pongracz (141) fell by major decision to second-ranked Kevin Jack.
